Urban Design Center

From the College of Art and Architecture, the Urban Design Center (UDC) offers the first two years of the B.S. Architecture program and four interdisciplinary graduate programs designed to simulate real-world partnerships. Our programs provide a holistic approach to urban design, emphasizing the interplay between built and natural systems. Through research, professional practice and community engagement, students work together across a range of scales to address issues of resilience and sustainability at the regional and urban scale.

We currently offer five programs at University of Idaho Boise

  • B.S. of Architecture

The University of Idaho Architecture Program is your first step toward a career in architecture. We offer a program that explores the built environment and its role in how people live, work and play; and teaches students about the power of architectural thinking and making. Students enrolled in this degree program through the Urban Design Center will take years 1 and 2 in Boise and years 3 and 4 in Moscow.
  • Master of Architecture

Accredited by the National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB), this program provides the professional training and credentials required to practice as a licensed architect. Students enrolled in this degree program through the Urban Design Center work alongside planning and landscape architecture students to address issues of resilience and sustainability at the regional and urban scale.
  • Master of Landscape Architecture

Accredited by the national Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board (LAAB), this program provides the educational credentials required to practice as a licensed landscape architect. Students enrolled in this degree program through the Urban Design Center work alongside planning and architecture students to address issues of resilience and sustainability at the regional and urban scale. For more information, visit the Landscape Architecture page.
  • Master of Science in Bioregional Planning & Community Design

The Bioregional Planning and Community Design program prepares future professionals and public leaders to create and disseminate significant planning scholarship and assist communities and organizations in planning for sustainable development. Students work with communities to create community-based plans, programs and policies that sustain and enhance community and landscape resilience.
  • Master of Science in Integrated Architecture and Design

Students pursuing the Master of Science in integrated architecture and design develop a curriculum that includes research and seminar classes in a broad variety of fields that may include environmental studies, engineering, virtual and gaming technology, and law.
