Special Features and Benefits of a Custom-Designed Program
A custom-designed program is a substantial investment in a company’s innovation, growth, and leadership. The program content reflects the expressed needs of client company leaders. The program focus and subject matter are aligned closely with the organization’s priorities.
Our nationally recognized Competency-Based Curriculum is adapted to the needs of each client company. All courses are designed for a seamless transition from knowledge in the classroom to implementation on the job.
A self-assessment, which participants complete at the beginning of the program and eight weeks after its conclusion, measures increases in knowledge, attitudes, awareness, and vision.
If the client chooses, the instructional team will incorporate company-generated materials, cases, and issues into program content. Company officials and customers may also be included as panelists and presenters.
Location, duration, schedule, and classroom activities all contribute to the goal of creating a dynamic learning environment. If an off-site setting is preferred, it should be one that removes participants from workplace distractions so that participants will have greater opportunity to continue classroom dialogue during meals, informal sessions, and one-on-one consultations. The instructional day also allows time during breaks and after work sessions to enable participants to interact and exchange ideas.
Several topics throughout a typical custom-designed program engage participants in targeted team activities. For the most effective shared learning experience, teams are carefully chosen to achieve the greatest diversity of knowledge and skills. In company-specific custom-designed programs, cross-functional activities give participants opportunities to work closely with individuals from other areas of their company. Sometimes companies find it effective to organize action-planning teams by work unit or division.
Implementation is a key element of custom-designed programs. Action planning enables teams to identify and address major work-related issues. A facilitator helps teams incorporate program material into an action plan. Some companies have incorporated their teams into on-going task forces.
The faculty for each custom-designed program is carefully selected to meet the specific needs and interests of the client company. Industry leaders and executives bring to the classroom insight built over decades in their industry. Participants also have access to the award-winning faculty of the University of Idaho’s College of Business and Economics.
The program planning staff works closely with the organization to identify timely industry issues so that companies are assured of fast-paced and relevant sessions. Further, all planning staff remain flexible and committed to the needs and interests of the client company in order to produce the best possible outcome.
