Story of 2016 Murder, Idaho LGBTQ Rights Told in “Gotts Point” Documentary Aug. 23

A University of Idaho associate professor’s documentary that explores the 2016 murder of a gay man in southern Idaho, “Gotts Point,” will be screened Thursday, Aug. 23, in Moscow.



Steven Nelson, an openly gay man and U of I alumnus, was lured to Gotts Point near Lake Lowell in Canyon County, Idaho, in May 2016, where he was robbed, beaten and left for dead. He died shortly thereafter from cardiac arrest, but not before getting help and identifying his assailants to Canyon County sheriff’s investigators.

Kenton Bird and Diane Kelly-Riley Receive FY19 CLASS Research Fellowships

The College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences is proud to announce Kenton Bird, School of Journalism and Mass Media, and Diane Kelly-Riley, Department of English, as the recipients of FY19 CLASS Research Fellowships. Bird will use this funding to continue his biography of Thomas Foley and Kelly-Riley will be working on an edited collection titled "Improving Outcomes: Disciplinary Writing, Local Assessment and the Aim of Fairness." U of I Senior to Study in Tanzania in Fall 2018

University of Idaho student Ian Hahn has been awarded a prestigious Boren Scholarship to study in Tanzania during the 2018-19 academic year. Hahn, originally from Portland, Oregon, is a senior in journalism with minors in international studies and anthropology. He will study Swahili this summer at the University of Florida and then transfer to MS Training Center for Development Cooperation in Arusha, Tanzania. Read more
