2nd Annual WSU Disability Awareness Symposium
The WSU 2nd Annual Disability Awareness Symposium will be held on Monday, April 8th, 2019. The event will open with breakfast at 9:00 am in Butch's Den.
This year's keynote speaker is Owen Kent. Owen Kent, lead actor, producer, and writer of the film, Angels of Mercy, was diagnosed with a potentially fatal congenital disease just shy of his second birthday. The prognosis stated he would die by his second birthday; this, however, was not in the cards. Owen graduated high school at the age of 16 and moved to California. He trained in the acting method known as the Meisner Technique and used his skills and talents to produce films that matter. He primarily focuses on projects with social justice and educational goals, such as One Planet Education Network, The World Trust and The Economic Inequality Media Project with Robert Reich. Close to his heart are issues of disability justice, animal rights, environmental protection, cyber-rights and the protection of freedoms.
