Save the Date: March 9-16, 2019
Spring ASB offers week-long regional trips based in the Pacific Northwest during the University of Idaho spring break.
For Spring ASB 2019 we will be sending out three teams of students to perform high quality, direct service that impacts our regional community and creates positive change. You do not want to miss out on the opportunity to participate!
Trip Title & Service Description
Cultivating Empathy and Embracing Diversity through Refugee Resettlement
Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with a refugee center to help support incoming refugees. Specific roles may vary, but service on this trip will grant every volunteer a better understanding of what the process of integration entails and a chance to learn more about what refugees experience while settling into a new home in the United States.
Breaking the Cycle: Enhancing Education in Incarceration
Volunteers will be serving at a correctional institute that specializes in Retained Jurisdiction sentencing. Retained Jurisdiction provides a sentencing alternative for offenders who might, after a period of programming and evaluation, be viable candidates for probation rather than incarceration. Volunteers will assist in preparation for the reentry of the inmates by assisting teaching of math and language skills, career planning interviews, money management workshops, and improving overall communication.
Challenging Housing Insecurity: Affordable Housing, Shelter, and Support Services
Volunteers will work with a registered non-profit organization that develops and provides essential services for individuals experiencing housing insecurity. Volunteer tasks may include facilities maintenance, meal preparation, and career development and planning. Volunteers will gain insight into the intricacies of providing support and care for families and individuals in need of emergency, transitional, and affordable housing in an urban epicenter.
