Experts, advocates and educators for more vibrant local food systems will join Idaho community leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities to strengthen local food economies during a conference Oct. 18 in Boise. The conference, Balancing Profitability and Access in Local Food Systems, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Riverside Hotel at 2900 W. Chinden Blvd. University of Idaho Extension will host the conference with support from Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education. Participants will explore economic approaches to cultivate a local food economy, create jobs and invigorate small farms and businesses. Read more

Job Opportunity: Extension Faculty, Livestock

The Extension Educator will provide leadership in livestock and small acreage Extension programming for county, multi-county, and the district (70%). The educator will provide assistance in university outreach where appropriate. They will plan, develop, implement, evaluate, and report livestock production and management and small acreage programs for producers and landowners. The Educator will serve as the administrative chair of the Gem County Extension office, supervising office staff, maintaining a positive county commissioner relationship, and negotiating and managing the county budget (10%). In addition, the Educator will provide county leadership and multi-county program support for 4-H Youth Development in an area of expertise (20%). For more information and to apply, click here.
