Note about 2018-19 Academy from Provost and Executive Vice President John Wiencek
Since its inception in 2009, the Leadership Academy has impacted the lives of faculty and staff throughout the University of Idaho, in Moscow and statewide. Nine cohorts have completed a year of study and reflection. In addition to developing leadership skills and learning about the university, several of our members have moved into new positions after participation in the Leadership Academy, here and in other organizations.
The three leaders of the program — Lynn Baird, Elissa Keim and Jeanne Stevenson — have provided a unique opportunity for faculty and staff members to explore and learn about leadership. As you likely know, Lynn and Jeanne are retiring this year. With their personal transition comes the need for the Leadership Academy to adjust and transition as well.
I have conferred with Elissa, Jeanne and Lynn about this transition. After much reflection and with significant input from these three leaders, I have decided that it would be wise to take a pause. I am looking forward to continuing to work with Elissa on further refining the program but also feel the new vice provost for faculty needs to be significantly involved going forward. A one year pause will allow this new person to engage in a discussion about the Leadership Academy’s future vision.
We look forward to discussion in the coming year about the Leadership Academy and its role within our new strategic plan. We will not be accepting nominations for the Leadership Academy this spring since there will be a one year pause in the program. I wish Lynn and Jeanne well as they enjoy their next adventure beyond the University of Idaho.
