Aspiring Teacher Finds Opportunity to Follow Her Dreams
College student Abigail Dunn’s dream to become an English teacher at a struggling school could not have been realized without the generosity of U of I donors. Dunn’s scholarships allowed her to teach during the summer at a program called Breakthrough Collaborative in San Francisco.
“Experiences like this are incredibly rewarding and impactful,” Dunn said. “But I could not have taken this internship without the support of scholarship money.”
Her time at Breakthrough helped her realize what she wanted to do with her English degree. The internship opened the door for growth both personally and professionally and helped to further Dunn’s career goals.
“Receiving scholarships makes me feel that I have chosen a degree and a career that are valuable and worth pursuing,” explained Dunn. “The scholarships that I receive pay for my tuition and have given me the flexibility to have experiences like my summer internship.”
