The Honorable Lawrence Wasden is Idaho
The Honorable Lawrence Wasden is Idaho’s 32nd attorney general. He was elected to a third term in November 2010 and is Idaho’s longest-serving attorney general. He earned his J.D. from the University of Idaho and was admitted to the Idaho State Bar in 1985.
In May 2011, Wasden was elected chairman of the American Legacy Foundation and continues to serve as one of two state attorneys general on that board of directors. The landmark national tobacco settlement created the American Legacy Foundation to reduce youth tobacco smoking and prevent smoking-related diseases in the United States.
The University of Idaho College of Law recently received a one-time gift of $350,000 from the American Legacy Foundation to create the Lawrence G. Wasden Scholars Program. This program recognizes Wasden for his national leadership on public health issues and his unselfish service and leadership as board chair, treasurer and member of the American Legacy Foundation’s board of directors.
Wasden is a founding member and past chairman of the Government and Public Lawyers Section of the Idaho State Bar. In January 2010, he began a three-year term on the University of Idaho College of Law Advisory Council.
According to Robin Koval, CEO and president of the foundation, The Lawrence G. Wasden Scholars Program honors Wasden’s remarkable service to the health of America’s youth as an attorney general and Tobacco Committee chair for the National Association of Attorneys General. The program will carry on Wasden’s tireless anti-tobacco work and create a legacy of longer, healthier lives.
The Lawrence G. Wasden Scholars Program will include a student scholarship and support for the education of law students interested in legal and policy dimensions of public health issues arising from tobacco and substance abuse. The Program will be the cornerstone of the College of Law’s educational opportunities in public health. The first scholarship will be awarded to an entering student in fall 2015.
