Student Research Expo

The College of Science is hosting the 14th Annual Student Research Exposition on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 in the IRIC Atrium.

Registration

There is room for approximately 40 participants, and spaces will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. Apply early to guarantee a spot.

To register, send the following information in a Microsoft Word file to [email protected]

  • Name and contact email address
  • Major(s) and year (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate)
  • Poster title and abstract (300 word maximum)
  • Faculty member(s) sponsoring research
  • Organization(s) funding research (if appropriate)

Registration Deadline: Friday, September 21, 2018

Participating undergraduate and graduate students will be available to answers questions from the judging panel and the general public about their research posters.  All are invited to drop by and experience this student focused event from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  We hope to see you there!  

How to Participate in the Expo

The application period is in early fall of each year. See information below about eligibility, poster evaluation and prizes.

Eligibility

Undergraduate Category

Any undergraduate with a declared major in the College of Science is eligible, regardless of the affiliation of the faculty member supervising the research. Also, undergraduates from majors outside the College of Science who work on research projects with College of Science faculty are encouraged to participate. Other students who wish to participate may petition for eligibility by contacting Associate Dean Mark Nielsen.

Graduate Category

Any University of Idaho graduate student participating in research supervised by a College of Science faculty member is eligible. Other students who wish to participate may petition for eligibility by contacting Associate Dean Mark Nielsen.

Poster Evaluation

Participants will be judged on the methodology and results of the research (40%), the design and layout of the poster (30%) and the clarity of a short presentation given to judges as they tour the displayed posters (30%).

Prizes

  • Two Outstanding Graduate Student Research Awards of $100 each
  • Two Outstanding Undergraduate Student Research Awards of $100 each
  • College of Science T-shirt or mug for all participants!
